I was super excited to sit down and talk with John Singleton about his new film ABDUCTION. A thriller centered on a young man, Taylor Launter who sets out to uncover the truth about his life after finding his baby photo on a missing persons website.  It had been six years since his last film and WOW what a great way to come back! It's fun and exciting and he worked with A-List actors.  Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs, Maria Bello and Alfred Molina, impressive!

In this segment we discuss, how some of the action sequences were set up but, what we didn't discuss in the clip is that, I got my first speaking part in his film Baby Boy. I was the glamed up Latina taking Tyrese's taco order at the Lucy's Drive Thru : ) I had always dreamed of being an actress but once I got on the set I knew there was so much more I wanted to learn. I loved the cameras, the production crew, the excitement of setting up a scene and that feeling my heart will pound out of my chest when John yelled "ACTION!"  Loved it! You know when it's right when how you think and feel transpires in your reality. Thank you John!!!

John Singleton has recently celebrated 20 years since being the youngest individual and first African American ever to be nominated for Best Director/Writer Academy Award.  Making movie history with his directorial debut Boyz 'N the Hood. I admire John not only for his work as a writer, producer and director but mostly for his biggest starring role and that is being a single parent of his 5 children.   Congratulations on being a wonderful Father too and continued success!

Last thought, my new favorite line in a film is... "I'll kill you and all of your FACEBOOK friends!!"  When you see the film, you'll know what I mean! Hysterical!

“BAILANDO POR UNA CAUSA”: A NIGHT OF DANCING TO BENEFIT

THE LATINO COMMISSION ON AIDS

Featuring Salsa, Contemporary, Bollywood, Tango, African, Rumba, & Hip Hop

New York, New York City (September 13, 2011) -- Baila Society, a leading New York Salsa dance company, presents the second annual “Bailando Por Una Causa”: A Night of Dancing, a phenomenal showcase of various styles of dancing including Salsa, Tango, African, Rumba, and Hip Hop to raise awareness and funds for the Latino Commission on AIDS, a non-profit organization dedicated to fighting the spread of HIV/AIDS in all communities, on Tuesday, October 4^th at the El Museo Del Barrio on 1230 5^th Avenue at 104^th Street.

The event, featuring dance performances by Baila Society, Djoniba Dance Centre, Ballet Hispanico, Peridance Capezio Center, DeMa Dance Company, Afro-Cuban dancer Yesenia Selier, Unified Dance School and more represents the cultures and traditions of the diverse communities affected by HIV/AIDS and equally engages in addressing the impact of HIV/AIDS and stigma on all communities. 100% of all proceeds from the event will benefit the Latino Commission on AIDS and commemorate the National Latino AIDS Awareness Day which is to take place on October 15^th. “As the son of a mother who died of AIDS and a father who contracted HIV, recovered and is now living a healthy life, it means a lot to me to collaborate again with the Commission,” said Joseph Rivera, co-founder of Baila Society. “We are very proud to bring together this talented collection of dancers with the hopes of not only raising money for the Commission but to also create awareness for the vital work the Commission does in combating HIV/AIDS throughout all communities.”

The evening will feature a VIP cocktail reception at 6:00pm with performances beginning at 7:00pm. VIP tickets, which include a fully catered cocktail hour, preferred seating and a free dance class at Peridance Capezio Center, are $50 and performance tickets are $25. All are welcome to the official after party at 10pm.

Pam-pana-ni-na-na…. The chorus to Mark Anthony’s “ Contra la Corriente”... En La Escena

Pam-pana-ni-na-na…. The chorus to Mark Anthony’s “ Contra la Corriente”...who can stop singing it after his concert tonight at the IZOD theatre? The night was electric, magical, some would say…spiritual as one concert-goer noted after Mark’s rendition of “Aguanile.”  “I saw the spirits through him” is this concert-goers commentary on the palpable energy Mark emitted through this spiritual chant but that wouldn’t be the only soul capturing moment of the night.  Mark delights us with his glide across the stage as we sing along to some of a long list of his greatest hits.  “No Nadie Como Ella”, and the audience rises,”Ahora Quien”, and we can’t help but dance.  Mark then slows it down to a ballad and he closes his eyes and we watch. We watch as if under a spell of his leading as is the type of experience that happens at a Mark Anthony concert and then he asks, do you want to dance? And we do. “I need to know.” As he leads us with his melodic throaty voice it occurs to me that we’re at party, a celebration really and that’s just how it feels.  Entertaining, to say the least, and easy to see why he packs houses again and again.  Mark is like the relative who invites you in, offers you a drink, and pulls you out to dance.  The life of the party who plays the timbales and calls out your song and you answer.  Except this time it was thousands of people who, to Mark’s “Ayee”, we answered, Que can-tan mi gente! And what of his mood you ask? Did his famous breakup set a tone for the evening? Well you wouldn’t tell from his energy but at one point when he closes his eyes and re-opens them and offers us the intense look that Mark gives so well as he belts out a ballad, one can only wonder if it was personally inspired.  Mark not only captures the audience, he takes us with him on his journey, as we sing along with him, he stops, looks out into the crowd and gestures to his band to quiet the music.  He holds the microphone towards us and as we sing, he closes his eyes, raises his arms, and dances.  Mark invigorates, delights, and even plays with us as he thanks us for the night and walks off stage while we wait expectantly for just one more appearance.  And then he appears again as the audience goes wild.  He finishes with a song and enraptures us as he holds a note for what seems like days and I realize, if you weren’t a Mark Anthony believer before, you will be now.
