About the Loiza Festival:
The Festival de Loiza is a traditional celebration originating in the coastal Northeastern region of Loiza in Puerto Rico where its community traces its ancestry back to Africa. The migration of many of the Loiza residents over time to El Barrio/East Harlem motivated the re-creation of this traditional festival to the urban setting of East Harlem. The Hermanos Fraternos de Loiza an East Harlem organization has organized the three day festival for the past 30 years by bringing the traditional costumes, music, dance, handcrafts and foods that celebrates the Puerto Rican community in New York.
